Export to Excel from Primavera P6

Even though Primavera P6 is an easy-to-use tool in Project Management, Microsoft Excel is much faster in certain areas like data grouping, filtering & pivoting. Moreover, generation of S-Curves and other graphical representations are better in Microsoft Excel than in Primavera P6. Hence it is essential to understand exporting of data from Primavera P6 to Excel.

There are 2 methods to export data from Primavera P6 to Microsoft Excel: -

METHOD - 1

a. After opening the project, choose File from Drop Down Menu and click Export

 

b. Then click Spreadsheet – (XLS)

 

c. Select Export Type according to the requirement. Here the Export Type Activities is selected.

 

d. Now, select the Projects to Export

 

e. Select the Template. Click on Add to create a user defined template and name it as Activities Template

 

f. Click on Modify to add or delete columns in the Activities Template. Sorting and filtering can be done using the Sorting and Filtering Tabs in the Modify Template screen.

 

g. Select the XLS file to which data is to be exported.

 

h. Click Finish to export the data to the file.

 

i. Click Open and Edit the File according to the requirement.

 

This Export Type will help in exporting Primavera data like Relationships, Resource Assignments and Expenses.

METHOD - 2

a. After opening the project layout with the appropriate filters, right click on the screen and click Export to Excel.

 

b. Choose the folder and Save the Excel File with the Primavera P6 data in that.

 

c. Now the file is ready to be opened and edited.

 

The second method takes lesser time as compared to the first method, but first method gives custom filtering.
